My Story (The Why)
What began as a beautiful home birth of our third daughter quickly turned into a moment that nearly took my life. Shortly after delivery, I experienced a severe postpartum hemorrhage and lost 4.6 liters of blood — nearly my body’s entire supply. As I went into hemorrhagic shock in the ambulance, I remember asking if I was going to die, fighting to stay awake for my husband and three daughters.
Because Fort Bend EMS had access to whole blood, I received a transfusion before we reached the hospital, and that intervention is the reason I am here today. Most ambulances in this country don’t carry blood, and preventable deaths happen every day because of it. That reality has become deeply personal, and it’s what drives our mission to bring awareness to the need for nationwide access to pre-hospital blood.
