Who We Are
a family with purpose
We are The Nkunims, a Houston-based, multicultural family of five. Our story started on opposite sides of the world, somehow finding its way into one home filled with love, loud laughter, and three tiny humans who keep us humble and endlessly inspired. What began as two creatives figuring out marriage, identity, and purpose has grown into a journey far bigger than we ever imagined.
We never set out to build a community on social media. But as visual storytellers, sharing our life felt natural. Simple snapshots that slowly turned into a family archive and, unexpectedly, a global village cheering us on.
Now, we’re passionate about inviting our audience into each chapter—whether that’s navigating entrepreneurship, traveling as a family of five, or exploring the cultures and places that shape us, especially Kojo’s Ghanaian roots. Our hope is that through our lens, families see the beauty in their own stories, feel encouraged to explore more, and learn to embrace the imperfect, magical everyday moments that make life meaningful.

Kojo
“PAPA”
Kojo was born in Kumasi, Ghana, where he spent his life until 2010. After studying fashion design in Ghana, he founded a jewelry company which was often seen on red carpets. He has more recently moved on to pursue his true passion in the film industry, premiering his first feature length documentary and directing narrative pieces hrough the family production house, Octus House. -

Michelle
“MAMA”
Michelle was born and raised in New Jersey, then attended Syracuse University where she played basketball and studied fashion design. After working in NYC she left to dedicate time to her fashion line and creative directing, working on projects in photo, branding, and marketing. She has since become the creative director and producer for all family business ventures. -

Afia
“SHPOOPA”
Afia has definitely taken after Michelle’s calm spirit. She loves music, art, and her family. At five years old Afia, we are convinced that she is a music prodigy due to her perfect pitch, and ability to catch a beat and improvise lyrics. -

Ama
“SISSY”
Ama is a spunky, old soul. We always say that she is a true 2000’s punk rock princess. She has taken after Kojo’s fun loving personality and Michelle’s love for adventure. You can always catch Ama piecing together unique outfits and making the silliest faces. -

Yaa
“BABY SISSY”
The youngest girly in the Nkunim family, Nana Yaa is the calmest, sweetest little peanut. She is always down for adventure, or ready to snuggle up and eat some good food. We are definitely seeing a big personality bloom out of her, so we can’t wait to see what these toddler years bring.
